Today’s Date in NBA History

(Boulder-CO) Today’s date is January 6th, and on this day:

‘51- The Indianapolis Olympians defeated the Rochester Royals 75-73 in six overtimes--the longest game in NBA history.

‘91- The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Seattle SuperSonics 114-111 before a sellout crowd at the Portland Memorial Coliseum. It marked the Blazers’ 600th consecutive sellout at home.

‘95- Atlanta Coach Lenny Wilkens passed the legendary Red Auerbach to become the NBA’s all-time winningest coach, with 939 career victories, after the Hawks defeated Washington 112-90 at the Omni. Wilkens reached the victory record in his 22nd year as an NBA coach, including four as a player-coach. In tribute to Auerbach, Wilkens puffed on a postgame victory cigar.

Enjoy your day!
